I’ve Changed My Brokerage - What Do I Need to Do to Get My Website and IDX Updated?
Follow these steps when you've changed brokerages and need your IDX account and website(s) updated to reflect the change.
Changing brokerages is a major milestone in your real estate career—and it comes with important technical updates that need to happen on your website and IDX (Internet Data Exchange) account. If not handled correctly, outdated brokerage branding, incorrect license display, or broken MLS feeds could hurt your credibility or even put you out of compliance.
This article walks you through exactly what needs to happen, who’s responsible for what, and how to make the transition smooth and fast.
✅ Step 1: Notify Your IDX Provider Immediately
Your IDX vendor (e.g., IDX Broker, iHomefinder, Showcase IDX, etc.) is bound by MLS rules and must display the correct brokerage affiliation and license information.
What to do:
-
Email your IDX provider and let them know you’ve changed brokerages
-
Include:
-
Your new brokerage name
-
Your MLS agent ID and office ID (if available)
-
The effective date of your brokerage change
-
-
Request confirmation that your account is being updated and that your new brokerage info will display on your site correctly
⚠️ Until this change is made, you may be out of MLS compliance. Some MLSs require the change to be reflected within 24–72 hours.
✅ Step 2: Confirm With Your MLS That You’re Reassigned to the New Brokerage
Your MLS must officially reassign your license under the new broker’s account before your IDX feed can legally reflect the change.
What to check:
-
Confirm with your new broker or transaction coordinator that the reassignment has been submitted and approved
-
Ask for the updated MLS office ID or brokerage code
If the MLS hasn’t processed the change yet, your IDX provider cannot legally update the feed, even if you’ve already switched brokerages.
✅ Step 3: Update Your Website Branding & Broker Attribution
Your website must reflect your new brokerage visibly and accurately, including:
-
Header/footer logo or name
-
Licensing disclaimers
-
Office address (if listed)
-
Broker of record (if applicable)
-
Legal brokerage name in the site footer or compliance text
What we’ll do (if you’re hosted with imFORZA):
-
Update brokerage name/logo across your website
-
Modify or replace license disclosures
-
Ensure all contact forms and calls-to-action are still valid and point to you
-
Assist with replacing PDF guides or other downloads that mention your old brokerage
✅ Step 4: Update Your Domain, Email, and Social Profiles (If Applicable)
Did your email or domain change with the new brokerage?
If so, update:
-
Contact email on your website
-
DNS records and MX records if you're using a new email host
-
Lead routing destinations in your CRM or contact forms
-
Meta titles and structured data for SEO consistency
Also be sure to update:
-
Google Business Profile
-
Zillow/Realtor.com agent profiles
-
Facebook Business Page
-
LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.
✅ Step 5: Review Your Compliance Requirements
Each MLS and brokerage has slightly different compliance guidelines. Some require:
-
A link to the brokerage website
-
A display of the brokerage license number
-
Equal prominence of agent and brokerage branding
-
Specific IDX disclaimers on listing pages
We’ll help ensure your website meets all local compliance standards, but you should:
-
Ask your new broker or office manager for a compliance checklist
-
Forward us any requirements or branding guidelines they provide
⏱️ How Long Does the Process Take?
If your MLS and IDX provider act quickly, changes can be visible in:
-
1–2 business days for basic IDX updates
-
3–5 business days for full reassignment and MLS confirmation
-
2-3 business days for website branding and content updates (on our side)
💡 Bonus Tip: Don’t Cancel Anything Prematurely
Wait to cancel your old IDX feed or email hosting until:
-
The new feed is confirmed live
-
You’ve tested the new lead routing
-
All your listings are displaying correctly
We can help coordinate a safe and seamless cutover.
